Mission Statement
The mission of Hales Franciscan High School is to develop leaders who
embrace academic excellence and embody wisdom, character, and Catholic
Christian values. The goal of the school is to develop young men Unto
Perfect manhood who are assets to society. This goal shall be accomplished
by providing a competitive college preparatory education and character-building
program in the Catholic and Franciscan traditions.
All students and parents/guardians are expected to read and familiarize
themselves with all of the information detailed in this handbook. The
book constitutes the official promulgation of the more important rules
and procedures, which make up the daily routine of Hales Franciscan
High School, Inc.
Identity and History
Since it’s founding, Hales Franciscan High School has celebrated
African-American heritage and endeavored to instill cultural pride.
Today, the school continues to be the only historically African-American,
all-male, Catholic college preparatory high school in the State of Illinois
and one of three such institutions in the nation. The school is a non-profit,
independent high school, fully accredited by the North Central Association
and certified by the Illinois State Board of Education.
Values Statement
• A rigorous program of academics, religions education, community
service, athletics, individual counseling, and social activities designed
to develop the mind, body, and spirit of each student;
• Instilling the gospel values of faith, justice, spiritual discipline
and respect for others, which form the foundation for leadership through
service;
• Open and collaborative participation with parents, religious
institutions, the business community and civic groups to offer opportunities
for students to grow in self-worth, self-discipline, and service through
the exercise of critical thinking, perseverance and compassion;
• Fostering a safe environment in which students from many backgrounds
and faith traditions learn to excel in all aspects of life, prepare
for a successful college experience, and become productive and socially
responsible citizens;
• Addressing the needs of underserved communities, especially
African-American males, to provide a quality educational experience
at an affordable cost.
